(photo TBA) I actually plan on finishing this one. It is eventually going to be a Toucan. I have learned a lot about pointillism while i have been working on this. One thing i have trouble is finding the patience to draw all of those tiny little dots. I learned that how far apart you put the dots can affect the lighting and shading of the piece, more dots together makes that area seem darker whilst farther apart makes that area seem lighter. I also found it hard to have colors blend into each other, since you can only do dots.
5/21/2018 my artist take a stand which i was unable to finish just like 90% of all my other art pieces :')Read NowMy artist take a stand art piece is based on deforestation. I used paint as my medium and painted a magazine. on my magazine I painted a forest with a lot of trees. I also painted someone cutting the magazines to represent the deforestation. I learned a lot about hand anatomy, i found that it was very difficult to draw the hands holding the scissors. I also learned about how to draw and shade trees kind of?? Overall this was pretty fun to draw.
I made a clay pineapple bowl. While making it i learned the process of ceramics. I learned about how clay goes from slip, to plastic, to leather hard, to bone dry. I also learned about the different tools in clay. i used the wedge and sponge tool a lot. I had a lot of trouble getting the leaves on my pineapple to stick, I had to score and slip numerous times, and even then leaves would still fall off and i had to score and slip them on again. when i first made the pattern on the pineapple i used the needle tool, but i had to restart. I think the cardboard was really interesting to work with. I decided to do a portrait of kermit!!! I found that it was really hard to do shadows when carving him out, and also easy to make mistakes and mess up the whole thing because i cut out the wrong part :( but it was still fun to make Although i never got to finish my visual biography, i still learned a lot working with the paint! It was really hard to draw the water, it took me like a whole class period. I had to look of reference photos to help me. Drawing the shadows and reflections in the water were also hard as well. Sometimes the colors would mix together and would make a color i didn't even want.
I thought that it was very hard to paint this. I do like the contrasting background but I am not happy with the color of the butterfly. I wanted the color to be a wayyy brighter teal but i had a lot of trouble mixing the colors for it :( I did not really enjoy using the paint but it was really easy to blend the colors with each other! Another thing I found hard was the value of the flowers correct. It was hard enough trying to mix the colors together so getting darker colors for the flower was also really hard.
My group worked pretty well together, but we did come across some challenges while we were making this. One challenge was trying to get the lines to be equidistant from each other, which we did well in some areas but in others,,,not so much. Another really hard thing was getting the lines parallel to each other. This was hard to do while at the same time making sure they have an equal distance. The third challenge was making the dome...actually look like a dome. it didn't look like one at first but we were able to fix it in the end. Overall it was fun to make and the outcome turned out pretty cool.Throughout making these, I learned a lot of stuff. The ribbon and the cup had to have a lot of value in the photo. While I made the ribbon I found it hard to see the shading so I had to guess where it was, Which is why it looks wrong. I learned that good value uses blending, but it was hard to control the blending with the chalk pastel in the kitty. In the last image I was really impatient that day so I didn't really try on the shadow, but I did learn from the other pictures that the shadow needs to have value too.
