Practice and sketchesreference photoWork in progress photosfinalAt first, I was not sure what reference photo to pick, and it took me awhile to pick one but I eventually picked one because I was running out of time. In class we worked alot by painting skin tones and drawing facial shapes so they really helped me before moving on to the final piece. To be honest though, the whole anatomy of the face is off and I hate it, I wish I had taken more time perfecting it, and I wish I could go back in time and fix it because it throws the piece off for me. Some challenges I encountered while creating the final piece were the smile and the hair. For the smile, I wasn't exactly sure how to paint the teeth without it looking creepy, but I think I managed a little bit... it's still my least favorite part of the piece and I feel that they are just a tad bit out of proportion with the rest of the face... and it kinda throws the whole piece off. It also makes me look like a creepy serial murderer :'). I wasn't exactly sure how to go about painting the hair at first since it wasn't something that we worked on in class, so I just layed down some base colors and shading and highlights first before moving onto the individual strands of hair. I am fairly proud of the hair despite it being a learning process... and even though the way I did it makes it look like I just stepped out of the shower, but i am happy with how I was able to convey the different values and how the strands fade into the dark purple like the rest of the hair. If I could learn something from this, I wish I could take more time to take a reference photo that I actually liked (bc I actually wanted to do one with me making a funny face or something) and plan better. A lot of times before projects I take forever to find or make reference photos cause I can get lazy and then we have to start so I just quickly choose something even if it's not what I originally wanted to do in the first place.
